Upuma Kozhakkattai

This recipe has stood the test of time and is mostly home made and fits all age groups as it is a steamed food.

This can be a good dinner option on a rainy night.

Ingredients:
1. Rice- 2 cups (not the idli rice- usual cooking rice like Ponni Parboiled Rice is okay)
2.Mustard- 1 tbsp
3. Curry leaves-a handful
4. Red chillies- 5 or 6
5. Asafoetida(Hing)- 1/2 tbsp
6. Salt to taste
7. Sesame Oil- 2 tbsp

Wash the rice twice and grind it coarsely in a blender. Take a thick bottom pan, add oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and hing. Once the mustard seeds start popping, add 6 cups of water (1 cup of rice would need 3 cups of water for this recipe). Add salt.

When the water starts boiling, add the rice that was blended earlier and keep stirring until all the water has drained. Cool for 5-10 mins.

In an idli mould, grease with sesame oil take a handful of this mixture and make the kozhakkattai/dumpling by applying pressure with your fingers. Steam for 10 minutes.

This can be served with Idli Podi.
